ANALISIS ALIH KODE PESERTA DIDIK DALAM KEGIATAN PEMBELAJARAN IPAS

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the types of code-switching used by students in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning activities and identify the factors that cause code-switching. The research was conducted using qualitative approach and case study method. The research subjects were fifth-grade students at SD EvFia Land Serang, a bilingual school with a policy of using English as the primary language of communication in the school. Data collection techniques included classroom interaction observation, interviews with teachers and the school principal, and documentation. The results of the study showed that students used three types of code-switching in IPAS learning: intra-sentential code-switching (71.67%), tag code-switching (16.67%), and inter-sentential code-switching (11.67%). Intra-sentential code-switching is the most dominant type used, characterized by the mixing of languages within a single sentence, particularly when students ask questions or explain something to the teacher. The factors causing code-switching include the speaker or speaker (33.33%), the interlocutor (22.22%), changes in the situation due to the presence of a third person (22.22%), and changes from formal to informal situations or vice versa (22.22%). These four factors indicate that code-switching occurs as a form of adaptation to the social and linguistic context faced by students. The use of code-switching by students occurs naturally as a response to communication needs and understanding of the material, and is influenced by the bilingual policy at the school. These results indicate that code-switching is part of students' communication strategies in adapting to the dynamics of learning and social interaction in a bilingual classroom.
