Abstract

ABSTRACT

North Toraja Regency is one of the leading tourist destinations in South Sulawesi, possessing great potential for the development of digital-based tourism. Although the number of visitors continues to increase each year, the management of tourism information and digital services remains suboptimal. The main issue lies in the absence of a system capable of adapting information and providing personalized tourism recommendations based on individual user preferences. To address this challenge, this study developed a Smart Tourism-Based Educational Tourism Application by implementing a Content-Based Filtering (CBF) recommendation system. The application was developed using the Waterfall method and implemented with the Laravel framework. The CBF-based recommendation system analyzes the attributes of tourism objects to provide destination suggestions that match users’ interests and characteristics. The results of the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) achieved an average score of 89.66%, indicating that the application is highly feasible for use by tourists, tourism managers, and the Department of Tourism. Therefore, the implementation of the Smart Tourism concept through this application has proven effective in improving the dissemination of tourism information, supporting the digital transformation of the local tourism sector, and providing a more interactive, personalized, and educational tourism experience for visitors in North Toraja.
